AC/DC SELLS OUT

Did I get your attention with that headline? Good, but they didn't actually.

AC/DC is one of my favourite bands of all time. There something that just rings true about their music, maybe because it fits so well with a weekend at the cottage. Never the less I found myself fairly disappointed when the band signed an exclusive agreement with Walmart not long ago.

This would mean the band would release their material (for the most part) only through the Walmart stores. Well played Sam.

The Indie stores throughout the United States began to cry fowl; and with good cause. How can they compete? One of the biggest releases of 2008 and they can't even be a part of it - doesn't make much sense.

However, AC/DC have decided they would sell their albums through the Indie stores. Exclusively, the rights to sell the vinyl edition of the highly anticipated "Black Ice" album has been given to the little guy. About damn time.

I'd say it's a great triumph. In a world where "old is new again," the Indie stores have it the jackpot. AC/DC vinyl? Where do I sign.

Jeff!

Thanks for the post man... I'm a massive AC/DC fan too. I'm sure they're set, there's no doubt. They would always make money through royalties etc. The extra on-top? Meaningless.

They didn't have to release a new album, but, they did, for the fans. Just like you and I. Ticket prices are especially through the roof because it's their last run at the mill!

Consider the last Police tour... there's no pension in rock and roll, so you might as well collect while you can.

They still did a good thing to help out the little guys and preserved their dignity at the same time!

And B... thanks for reading smilies/smiley.gif

You are of course entitled to your opinion.. however, if you re-read Blair's post, the cd is available in the US at indie stores as well.
In Canada, it is available at all retailers. Here is an article

SOLD OUT

Sorry people, I'm like the biggest AC/DC fan there is. BUT, here we have Wal-Mart, the company that came into every little town across these United States of America and ran every Mom & Pop store out of business. The company that moves out of it's old decrepid buildings, builds a new one, and leaves the old decrepid building standing, and won't sell it to anyone who might be in direct competition to them. (You can fact check this on the internet) I recall an interview with the band members on the Family Jewels CD, where Malcom said "We don't do this for the money anymore, I think we all are pretty much set, it's all about what the fans want". So if this is true, how is it that they go exclusively with Wal-Mart/Sam's Club? It's obvious since the news of the new album came out, and since they set up pre-order sales, that the album probably already went gold before the record hit the stores or they ever set foot on stage. You have to pay $40.00 to join the fan club to get tickets? Come on! I am personally disgusted with this. It's not about the fans anymore, it's all about the f****** money, like everything else. Wal-Mart is a monopoly freight train just waiting to run right off the tracks! Wal-Mart is why China PUMPS billions of dollars worth of worthless cheap goods into this country, while not allowing the U.S. to import equal amounts into their country. China is still a communist run country. They sell us their cheap s**t, that falls apart, so we have to go buy it again. No wonder we don't have any jobs in this country, and no wonder our economy is in the toilet. Thanks AC/DC. I won't be buying your album this time around. I'll let the radio run it in the ground. The new album title should be "BLACK EYE". That's my opinion, like it or not.
