My cat passed away yesterday...Lloyd Christmas Roop passed away peacefully at the age of 10...He had been getting really skinny as of late, but ever since he started going outside, he always got really skinny at the end of the summer and then he would always gain his weight back in the fall and winter months...I just chalked his weight loss up to that...I feel really bad because I got Lloyd when I started my first job in Chatham and he's been my buddy for a long time...I feel like I should have taken better care of him...

Lloyd was named after Jim Carey's character in the movie 'Dumb and Dumber'...Everyone always laughed at his name, but it seem to fit him perfect...He was a good cat, but always lived on his own terms...He wasn't a typical cat who liked to cuddle up on your lap, and when he did join you for a snuggle, it was on his own terms and ended when he said so...

He wasn't afraid his little sister, Harry - our border collie mutt, and always fought back with a quick jab and right paw uppercut...Often the dog didn't even know what had happened to her when it was all over, as it happened so quickly...

We had a service for Lloyd in the backyard of our Orillia home yesterday...He now lies at the back of our property in one of my old tool boxes...There is a nice flat stone marking his grave...During the service, Grace was quite upset and as I was digging the hole asked me how long it was going to take to dig to heaven...Little comments like that from her helped to lighten the mood...Little Tommy had no idea of what was happening....In fact, he was screaming as we were saying our goodbyes because he couldn't get his tractor off the deck...

Overall, a very sad day...Lloyd will be missed...I loved that little guy...

I wrote an obit in the style of a broadcast news story this morning...I tried to make as light hearted as possible...

    ORILLIA -- The cat who that was named after Jim Carey's character in the movie Dumb and Dumber has passed away.
    Lloyd was 10.
    His father Ted Roop says Lloyd died Sunday of stomach cancer.
    Lloyd's funeral was held yesterday in Orillia, he was buried in his back yard. In attendance was his brother, Tommy, and sisters, Grace and Harriot, along with his parents Ted & Lisa.
    Tommy Roop was not taking the news well and was said to be screaming about his tractor at the top of his yard during the Lloyd's funeral.
    Lloyd always enjoyed relaxing on the top of his father's boat and enjoyed becoming an outdoor cat at the age of 7.
