No, it's not a typo. This weekend is more to me than the first in a series of extended time away from work for the summer. It also signifies the passing of another year in my life. It is the "MERE 2-4" long weekend.

You see, my birthday happens to be May 24th, and though it doesn't fall on the long weekend this year, my birthday is ALWAYS celebrated on the long weekend. It's tradition, and it means that I get not 1, not 2, but 3 nights to be the birthday girl. When I was little, my father also was able to convince me that the fireworks were done in honour of me. (imagine my disappointment when a schoolmate corrected me on that one...)

When I was younger I was CONVINCED that birthdays meant tons of presents and tons of attention. Then they became about tons of alcohol and tons of attention. I now have learned that the BEST part of a birthday is just spending it with people you love and respect.

 This year, i'm taking it easy, choosing to spend my birthday with you, here on The Dock.
