We must ensure our educatioin standards are high in ontario. !!
Amoung the highest in the world.
We must ensure that as many kids as possible... are meeting those lofty standards. But, more and more, I'm getting the feeling that standardized testing.... is not the way to go.

If this were.... say...... 1991.... again.... with Europe opening up again with the fall of the Berlin wall... the end of the cold war... and a new sense of global community.... I can't image I would have said what I'm about to say.

Just when we were all ready to spark up the seemingly annual debate about ditching the Monarchy, the old gal drops in and wow's em' from coast to coast.
So... .that's it for me. i'll hear no more of this chatter about distancing ourselves.... as Canadians.... from the Queen.

So here we are.... entering a new era. A new taxation era in Ontario. Yes, the HST is here to stay. If you've been listening, I have not been a fan of this tax. At this time.

I spent a good chunk of my weekend conversation with friends debating this man-made.... natural disaster slowly and painfully unfolding in the gulf of Mexico.

If this is really what it going to cost to host world leaders on our back porch for two days this month, then I strongly suggest they stay at home, have a little web conference, and invest the money saved in something we care about.

I try to bring to our morning radio show on the DOCK, from time to time, the wonderful advancements in technology that society has come up with. Discoveries, both natural and man-made, that make us stand in amazement, at the heartwarming capabilities and potential of humanity.
Then came april 20th, and since then, the only amazement i have felt, is how pathetically inept we are, or at least the oil industry, of stopping the worst environmental disaster to hit North America in our lifetime.

There's no doubt the debacle at the OSPCA last week is going to drag up a whole new discussion about policies and practices on how we deal with our wild and unwanted domestic animals.
The key problem at our humane society's across Ontario, I believe, comes down to one underlying fact about our society.
Some people are more animal lovers than others !!.
More importantly, some people actually hold the lives of animals in higher regard than those of humans.
It is this varying degree of compassion we have for animals that makes it so difficult for SPCA staff to do their jobs , and what makes it so tough to form policy that is both budget conscious, while still showing concern for the animals.
Yes, there are people who believe that we should spare no expense, including taxpayer money, to save dying or sick animals who would have no chance in the wild, and who will likely never be well enough to be adopted.
But tough decisions have to be made at animal shelters. Very tough!. Many of those decisions would not sit well with those rabid animal lovers.
I'm an animal lover, and dog owner. But, do I want the SPCA spending thousands of dollars trying to save a mutt that has virtually no chance. Absolutely not!!. Put the sorry beast down, and I'd say the same if it were my own.
And yes, I think the majority of citizens in our province want some kind of delicate balance to be struck. A balance between the humane and compassionate treatment of animals... whenever possible, but done with fiscal management in mind. I think most also realize these are animals.... not humans, and that sometimes these tough decisions have to be made.
Now, whether or not this mass euthanization in Newmarket last week was necessary or not.... we'll wait for the investigations to tell us that.
But, we have to be careful not to pounce all over the SPCA when something like this happens. Day in and day out they work outside of the spotlight, trying to walk that tight-wire act, tryinig to satisfy both the radical (often misinformed) animal lover, and the general public. Whenever such a balancing act deals with warm-blooded, breathing creatures, you simply won't satisfy all.
Your thoughts.... ???
